Unconditional Election

[Updated 12.12.07: Added 2 more verses from Acts]

This point is a bit tricky as some will assume what some hyper-Calvinists believe, that God’s election will make any sort of evangelism completely unnecessary and you can see how this is an overemphasis of God’s sovereignty and belittling of mankind’s responsibilities (especially that of Christians to preach the Gospel). This unconditional election just means that it is God who is in control of who is elected and that God has chosen from eternity past based on His own good pleasure and not what we might or might not do or become. Our choosing God is not the reason we were chosen/saved, but just a result of having already been elected by God.
