Like a Bat Out of Linear Hell

Okay so long story short, today I came home from the Actuarial Science test and reviewed a little bit for my Algebra midterm. From past experience, Math midterms have been around 7 pm at night, and I assumed the same.

I started playing some Left 4 Dead and about half an hour into it, I suddenly got compelled (I am convinced it was divine intervention!) to check my time and room for the exam. To my horror, I found that my midterm started at 4:20 pm. For some reason (probably out of panic), when I looked at my clock, it read 5:50 pm, so I thought to myself “Oh shit. I’ve got like 40 minutes to write a 2 hour exam.” So, like a bat out of linear Hell, I tore out of my house, making a mad dash for the Math building where my midterm was hosted.

I arrived about 5 minutes later, and sat down out of breath. I speed-Math’d my way through the entire exam in the 20 minutes I had, skipping one question on the way and leaving many partially answered. I ventured a glance at the clock, and to my surprise, the exam clock had one hand pointed between the 5 and 6, and a longer one pointed at the 6. 5:30!

Apparently, I had misread my clock in my room and was only 30 or so minutes late (blessedly). At this point, I’d finished the exam pretty much, so I doubled back with the remaining time to actually flesh out my proofs and double-check my calculations. I felt so relieved when I realized I had a whole extra hour or so. I really do feel like I aced this midterm (though I’ll confirm/withdraw that when I get the results back in a week or so), and it was of no ability of my own! If I hadn’t divinely gotten the compulsion to check my schedule, I would’ve completely missed out on this midterm and would likely need to repeat the course. Thank God, quite literally. As to why exactly I was reminded by Spirit, I have no idea and can think of no reason why I’d deserve such a chance. God works His grace in weird and wonderful ways, my friends.

This was a humbling experience, in a round-about, somewhat convoluted way.
